Dominant groups
Analysis of the household/family types in the City of Darwin LGA in 2021 compared to MacDonnell Regional Council LGA shows that there was a higher proportion of couple families with child(ren) as well as a lower proportion of one-parent families. Overall, 26.9% of total families were couple families with child(ren), and 9.4% were one-parent families, compared with 22.7% and 12.2% respectively for MacDonnell Regional Council LGA.
There were a higher proportion of lone person households and a higher proportion of couples without children. Overall, the proportion of lone person households was 22.8% compared to 15.3% in MacDonnell Regional Council LGA while the proportion of couples without children was 23.3% compared to 10.3% in MacDonnell Regional Council LGA.
