Dominant groups

Analysis of the country of birth of the population in the RDA Northern Territory in 2016 compared to Greater Darwin shows that there was a smaller proportion of people born overseas, as well as a smaller proportion of people from a non-English speaking background.

Overall, 19.8% of the population was born overseas, and 13.3% were from a non-English speaking background, compared with 25.5% and 18.1% respectively for Greater Darwin.

The largest non-English speaking country of birth in the RDA Northern Territory was Philippines, where 2.6% of the population, or 5,914 people, were born.
