More Rural East residents worked in construction than any other industry in 2021.

This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.

Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Rural East in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:
- Construction (107 people or 14.2%)
- Health Care and Social Assistance (103 people or 13.7%)
- Education and Training (70 people or 9.3%)
In combination, these three industries employed 280 people in total or 37.3% of the total employed resident population.
In comparison, the City of Playford employed 9.3% in Construction; 15.2% in Health Care and Social Assistance; and 6.2% in Education and Training.
The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Rural East and the City of Playford were:
- A larger percentage of persons employed in construction (14.2% compared to 9.3%)
