Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in City of Newcastle in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:

  • Professionals (24,987 people or 29.0%)
  • Community and Personal Service Workers (11,544 people or 13.4%)
  • Technicians and Trades Workers (10,417 people or 12.1%)

In combination these three occupations accounted for 46,948 people in total or 54.6% of the employed resident population.

In comparison, Islington employed 32.7% in Professionals; 14.2% in Community and Personal Service Workers; and 12.6% in Technicians and Trades Workers.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of the City of Newcastle and Islington were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed as Machinery Operators And Drivers (4.9% compared to 2.4%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed as Clerical and Administrative Workers (11.6% compared to 9.7%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed as Labourers (7.9% compared to 6.2%)
