Merewether Heights is bounded by Flowerdale Avenue, Morgan Street, Takari Place and the suburb of Merewether in the north, the Glenrock State Conservation Area and Scenic Drive in the south, and the suburb of Merewether in the west.

Name origin

Merewether Heights is named after Edward Merewether, First Secretary to Governor Gipps.

Settlement history

Settlement of the area dates from the mid 1800s, with growth during the late 1800s and early 1900s. Expansion continued during the post-war years, with rapid development during the 1960s. The population declined slightly during the 1990s, and then increased by a similar amount between 2001 and 2011, a result of small changes in dwelling stock and the average number of persons living in each dwelling.
