Name origin

Mayfield East is named for the area east of Mayfield, which was named after May Scholey.

Settlement history

Settlement of the area dates from the mid 1800s. Residential and industrial development took place from the 1860s into the early 1900s. Expansion continued during the post-war years. The population declined slightly between 1991 and 2006, and then increased by a similar amount between 2006 and 2011.

Land use

Mayfield East is an established residential area, with some industrial land use in the east.
