There were more male professionals in the City of Newcastle in 2021 than any other occupation.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in City of Newcastle in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:

  • Professionals (10,615 males or 24.7%)
  • Technicians and Trades Workers (8,607 males or 20.0%)
  • Managers (5,751 males or 13.4%)

In combination these three occupations accounted for 24,973 males in total or 58.2% of the employed male resident population.

In comparison, Merewether employed 32.8% in Professionals; 15.8% in Technicians and Trades Workers; and 18.6% in Managers.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of the City of Newcastle and Merewether were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed as Technicians and Trades Workers (20.0% compared to 15.8%)
  • A larger percentage of males employed as Machinery Operators And Drivers (8.9% compared to 5.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed as Professionals (24.7% compared to 32.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed as Managers (13.4% compared to 18.6%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed males in City of Newcastle increased by 5,873 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the occupations of male residents between 2016 and 2021 in the City of Newcastle were for those employed as:

  • Professionals (+1,831 males)
  • Managers (+1,269 males)
  • Community and Personal Service Workers (+837 males)
  • Technicians and Trades Workers (+760 males)
