Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Islington in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (255 people or 20.6%)
  • Education and Training (147 people or 11.9%)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (130 people or 10.5%)

In combination, these three industries employed 532 people in total or 43.1% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Newcastle East employed 22.7% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 10.9% in Education and Training; and 13.7% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Islington and Newcastle East were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in retail trade (8.1% compared to 5.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in professional, scientific and technical services (10.5% compared to 13.7%)
