Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in City of Newcastle in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (17,726 people or 20.6%)
  • Education and Training (8,814 people or 10.2%)
  • Retail Trade (7,434 people or 8.6%)

In combination, these three industries employed 33,974 people in total or 39.5% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Mayfield employed 20.0% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 10.0% in Education and Training; and 8.0% in Retail Trade.

There were no major differences between City of Newcastle and Mayfield in 2021.
