Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in Sorrento in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Construction (307 males or 15.2%)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (273 males or 13.5%)
  • Mining (186 males or 9.2%)

In combination, these three industries employed 766 males in total or 37.9% of the total employed male resident population.

In comparison, South Ward employed 17.6% in Construction; 12.0% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services; and 9.9% in Mining.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of Sorrento and South Ward were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed in professional, scientific and technical services (13.5% compared to 12.0%)
  • A larger percentage of males employed in financial and insurance services (4.3% compared to 2.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in construction (15.2% compared to 17.6%)
