The three largest ancestries in the City of Joondalup in 2016 were English, Australian and Irish.

Ancestry defines the cultural association and ethnic background of an individual going back three generations. Ancestry is a good measure of the total size of cultural groups in the City of Joondalup regardless of where they were born or what language they speak.

Analysis of the ancestry responses of the population in City of Joondalup in 2016 shows that the top five ancestries nominated were:

  • English (70,876 people or 45.9%)
  • Australian (45,924 people or 29.7%)
  • Irish (18,228 people or 11.8%)
  • Scottish (16,468 people or 10.7%)
  • Italian (6,633 people or 4.3%)

In combination these five ancestries account for 158,129 responses in total, or 102.39% of all responses.

The major differences between the ancestries of the population in the City of Joondalup and Greater Perth were:
