Dominant groups
Analysis of the five year age groups of Ocean Reef in 2021 compared to Heathridge shows that there was a lower proportion of people in the younger age groups (under 15) and a higher proportion of people in the older age groups (65+).
Overall, 18.0% of the population was aged between 0 and 15, and 17.8% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 20.9% and 13.1% respectively for Heathridge.
The major differences between the age structure of Ocean Reef and Heathridge were:
- A larger percentage of persons aged 50 to 54 (8.7% compared to 5.4%)
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 30 to 34 (4.2% compared to 8.9%)
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 25 to 29 (3.6% compared to 7.7%)
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 35 to 39 (5.1% compared to 9.1%)

From 1996 to 2021, Ocean Reef's population decreased by 68 people (0.9%). This represents an average annual population change of -0.03% per year over the period.
The largest changes in age structure in this area between 1996 and 2021 were in the age groups:
- 35 to 39 (-396 persons)
- 40 to 44 (-386 persons)
- 60 to 64 (+361 persons)
- 65 to 69 (+344 persons)
