Dominant groups

Analysis of the language spoken at home by people aged 55 to 64 years in the City of Joondalup in 2021 compared to Greater Perth shows that there was a larger proportion of people who spoke English only, and a smaller proportion of those speaking a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).

Overall, 86.6% of people aged 55 to 64 years spoke English only, and 10.3% of% spoke a non-English language, compared with 79.1% and 16.4% respectively for Greater Perth.

Other than English, the dominant language spoken at home by people aged 55 to 64 years in the City of Joondalup was Afrikaans, with 1.1% of the population, or 237 people speaking this language at home.

The major difference between the languages spoken at home for people aged 55 to 64 years of the City of Joondalup and Greater Perth in 2021 was:
