Dominant groups

Analysis of the language spoken at home by people aged 25 to 34 years in the City of Joondalup in 2021 compared to Greater Perth shows that there was a larger proportion of people who spoke English only, and a smaller proportion of those speaking a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).

Overall, 84.3% of people aged 25 to 34 years spoke English only, and 11.7% of% spoke a non-English language, compared with 68.0% and 25.7% respectively for Greater Perth.

Other than English, the dominant language spoken at home by people aged 25 to 34 years in the City of Joondalup was Mandarin, with 1.2% of the population, or 203 people speaking this language at home.

The major differences between the languages spoken at home for people aged 25 to 34 years of the City of Joondalup and Greater Perth in 2021 were:
