The three largest ancestries in Casey Growth Area in 2016 were English, Australian and Indian.

Ancestry defines the cultural association and ethnic background of an individual going back three generations. Ancestry is a good measure of the total size of cultural groups in Casey Growth Area regardless of where they were born or what language they speak.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the ancestry responses of the population in Casey Growth Area in 2016 shows that the top five ancestries nominated were:

  • English (8,050 people or 24.8%)
  • Australian (7,660 people or 23.6%)
  • Indian (3,644 people or 11.2%)
  • Sinhalese (2,403 people or 7.4%)
  • Irish (1,841 people or 5.7%)

In combination these five ancestries account for 23,598 responses in total, or 72.56% of all responses.

The major differences between the ancestries of the population in Casey Growth Area and the City of Casey were:
