Location and boundaries

Hampton Park is bounded by O'Grady Road and Centre Road in the north, the suburb of Narre Warren South in the east, Glasscocks Road, the South Gippsland Highway, Hallam Road and Olive Road in the south and the South Gippsland Highway and the South Gippsland Freeway in the west.

Settlement history

Settlement of the area dates from the 1850s, with land used mainly for farming and grazing. Growth took place in the early 1900s when land around Somerville Road was subdivided. Significant development occurred from the 1970s, with growth beginning to slow from the late 1990s. The population increased slightly between 2001 and 2011, a result of new dwellings being added to the area, particularly medium density housing.

Land use

Hampton Park is a relatively recent residential area, with industrial areas in the south and water drainage areas in the north.

Major features of the area include K M Reedy Reserve, River Gum Creek Reserve, Hampton Park Shopping Centre, Hallam Road Landfill, Cairns Road Recreation Reserve, Henry Joseph Moran Park, Marjorie Eastick Reserve, Robert Booth Reserve and numerous schools.
