Settlement of the area dates from the late 1800s, with land used mainly for agriculture. Development was minimal until the early 1990s. Rapid growth took place between 1991 and 2006, a result of large numbers of new dwellings being added to the area. Growth continued between 2006 and 2011, but at a considerably slower rate, as fewer new dwellings were added to the area.
Narre Warren South is a relatively new residential area.
Major features of the area include Casey Central Shopping Centre, Amberly Park Shopping Centre, Berwick Springs Wetlands, Amberly Park Drive Reserve, Berwick Springs Park, Casey Central Town Park, Hillsmeade Reserve, River Gum Creek Reserve, Strathaird Reserve and numerous schools.
