Industry sector of employment

More Established District residents worked in construction than any other industry in 2021.

The Established District's industry statistics identify the industry sectors in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.

When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Established District in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Construction (4,693 people or 12.8%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (4,632 people or 12.6%)
  • Education and Training (3,908 people or 10.6%)

In combination, these three industries employed 13,233 people in total or 36.0% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Bringelly - Cobbitty employed 14.9% in Construction; 10.6% in Health Care and Social Assistance; and 10.2% in Education and Training.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of the Established District and Bringelly - Cobbitty were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in health care and social assistance (12.6% compared to 10.6%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in accommodation and food services (5.1% compared to 4.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (0.5% compared to 3.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in construction (12.8% compared to 14.9%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed people in Established District increased by 7,275 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the resident population between 2016 and 2021 in the Established District were for those employed in:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+1,452 persons)
  • Construction (+1,257 persons)
  • Education and Training (+1,056 persons)
  • Retail Trade (+477 persons)
