Derived from the two Census questions:

'What best describes the business of your employer?' and 'What are the main goods produced or main services provided by your employers business?'

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Camden Council area in 2011 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Manufacturing (3,191 people or 11.1%)
  • Retail Trade (3,158 people or 11.0%)
  • Construction (2,842 people or 9.9%)

In combination, these three industries employed 9,191 people in total or 32.0% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Greater Sydney employed 8.5% in Manufacturing; 9.8% in Retail Trade; and 7.1% in Construction.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Camden Council area and Greater Sydney were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in construction (9.9% compared to 7.1%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in manufacturing (11.1% compared to 8.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in professional, scientific and technical services (5.0% compared to 9.6%)
