In the Established District, 46.2% of households were made up of couples with children in 2021, compared with 39.3% in the Rural District.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the household/family types in the Established District in 2021 compared to the Rural District shows that there was a higher proportion of couple families with child(ren) as well as a higher proportion of one-parent families. Overall, 46.2% of total families were couple families with child(ren), and 12.6% were one-parent families, compared with 39.3% and 7.2% respectively for the Rural District.

There were a lower proportion of lone person households and a lower proportion of couples without children. Overall, the proportion of lone person households was 14.5% compared to 18.7% in the Rural District while the proportion of couples without children was 22.2% compared to 31.0% in the Rural District.

Emerging groups

The number of households in Established District increased by 4,974 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in family/household types in the Established District between 2016 and 2021 were:

  • Couples with children (+2,256 households)
  • Couples without children (+1,052 households)
  • Lone person (+944 households)
  • One parent families (+627 households)
