In 2021, the largest age group in Regional NT was 30 to 34 year olds. The group that changed the most since 2016 was 0 to 4 year olds, decreasing by 524 people.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the female five year age groups of Regional NT in 2021 compared to Greater Hobart shows that there was a higher proportion of females in the younger age groups (under 15) and a lower proportion of females in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 21.7% of the female population was aged between 0 and 15, and 7.3% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 16.0% and 20.0% respectively for Greater Hobart.

The major differences between the female age structure of Regional NT and Greater Hobart were:

  • A smaller percentage of females aged 70 to 74 (1.9% compared to 5.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of females aged 75 to 79 (1.0% compared to 3.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of females aged 65 to 69 (3.3% compared to 5.8%)

The largest changes in female age structure in this area between 2016 and 2021 were in the age groups:
