This will be influenced by the economic base and employment opportunities available in the area, education levels, and the working and social aspirations of the population. When viewed with other indicators, such as Educational Qualifications and Individual Income, Occupation is a key measure for evaluating CAD West's socio-economic status and skill base.

Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in CAD West in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:
- Professionals (297 males or 29.4%)
- Community and Personal Service Workers (137 males or 13.6%)
- Technicians and Trades Workers (131 males or 13.0%)
In combination these three occupations accounted for 565 males in total or 55.9% of the employed male resident population.
In comparison, the City of Adelaide employed 38.7% in Professionals; 9.6% in Community and Personal Service Workers; and 11.1% in Technicians and Trades Workers.
The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of CAD West and the City of Adelaide were:
- A larger percentage of males employed as Labourers (11.7% compared to 7.1%)
- A larger percentage of males employed as Community and Personal Service Workers (13.6% compared to 9.6%)
- A smaller percentage of males employed as Professionals (29.4% compared to 38.7%)
- A smaller percentage of males employed as Managers (10.7% compared to 15.4%)
Emerging groups
The number of employed males in CAD West increased by 466 between 2016 and 2021.
The largest changes in the occupations of male residents between 2016 and 2021 in CAD West were for those employed as:
- Professionals (+140 males)
- Labourers (+67 males)
- Community and Personal Service Workers (+66 males)
- Technicians and Trades Workers (+56 males)
