Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in City of Adelaide in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:
- Health Care and Social Assistance (1,908 people or 15.1%)
- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (1,774 people or 14.0%)
- Accommodation and Food Services (1,700 people or 13.4%)
In combination, these three industries employed 5,382 people in total or 42.6% of the total employed resident population.
In comparison, Greater Adelaide employed 17.1% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 7.1% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services; and 6.6% in Accommodation and Food Services.
The major differences between the jobs held by the population of the City of Adelaide and Greater Adelaide were:
- A larger percentage of persons employed in professional, scientific and technical services (14.0% compared to 7.1%)
- A larger percentage of persons employed in accommodation and food services (13.4% compared to 6.6%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed in construction (4.1% compared to 8.4%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed in manufacturing (3.9% compared to 6.8%)
Emerging groups
The number of employed people in City of Adelaide increased by 3,555 between 2011 and 2021.
The largest changes in the jobs held by the resident population between 2011 and 2021 in the City of Adelaide were for those employed in:
- Accommodation and Food Services (+640 persons)
- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+621 persons)
- Health Care and Social Assistance (+539 persons)
- Education and Training (+294 persons)
