Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Lalor in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:
- Professionals (1,466 people or 16.1%)
- Technicians and Trades Workers (1,336 people or 14.7%)
- Labourers (1,309 people or 14.4%)
In combination these three occupations accounted for 4,111 people in total or 45.2% of the employed resident population.
In comparison, the City of Whittlesea employed 18.7% in Professionals; 14.7% in Technicians and Trades Workers; and 10.1% in Labourers.
The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Lalor and the City of Whittlesea were:
- A larger percentage of persons employed as Labourers (14.4% compared to 10.1%)
- A larger percentage of persons employed as Machinery Operators And Drivers (10.7% compared to 8.5%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed as Professionals (16.1% compared to 18.7%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed as Managers (8.3% compared to 10.1%)

The number of employed people in Lalor increased by 825 between 2016 and 2021.
The largest changes in the occupations of residents between 2016 and 2021 in Lalor were for those employed as:
- Professionals (+425 persons)
- Community and Personal Service Workers (+184 persons)
- Managers (+141 persons)
- Sales Workers (-114 persons)
