Dominant groups

Analysis of the country of birth of the population in the City of Whittlesea in 2011 compared to Greater Melbourne shows that there was a larger proportion of people born overseas, as well as a larger proportion of people from a non-English speaking background.

Overall, 33.6% of the population was born overseas, and 30.2% were from a non-English speaking background, compared with 31.4% and 24.2% respectively for Greater Melbourne.

The largest non-English speaking country of birth in the City of Whittlesea was Italy, where 4.0% of the population, or 6,221 people, were born.

The major differences between the countries of birth of the population in the City of Whittlesea and Greater Melbourne were:
