Dominant groups

Analysis of the families with children in the City of Whittlesea in 2021 compared to Greater Melbourne shows that there was a larger proportion of couples with young children, as well as a larger proportion of couples with older children.

Overall, 23.4% of total households with children were couple with young children, and 12.4% were couples with older children, compared with 18.3% and 10.5% respectively for Greater Melbourne.

There were a larger proportion of single parent households with young children and a larger proportion of single parent households with older children. Overall, the proportion of single parent households with young children was 4.0% compared to 3.3% in Greater Melbourne while the proportion of single parent households with older children was 7.1% compared to 5.7% in Greater Melbourne.
