Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in South West Coastal District in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (305 people or 22.1%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (168 people or 12.1%)
  • Construction (128 people or 9.3%)

In combination, these three industries employed 601 people in total or 43.5% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, South Gippsland Shire employed 15.0% in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing; 13.5% in Health Care and Social Assistance; and 10.4% in Construction.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of the South West Coastal District and South Gippsland Shire were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (22.1% compared to 15.0%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in professional, scientific and technical services (6.1% compared to 4.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in manufacturing (3.2% compared to 6.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in retail trade (6.7% compared to 8.4%)
