More Division 14 residents worked in health care and social assistance than any other industry in 2021.

Division 14's industry statistics identify the industry sectors in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.

When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Division 14 in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (2,969 people or 16.2%)
  • Construction (2,390 people or 13.0%)
  • Retail Trade (1,728 people or 9.4%)

In combination, these three industries employed 7,087 people in total or 38.7% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Gold Coast City employed 15.0% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 11.4% in Construction; and 10.4% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Division 14 and Gold Coast City were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in construction (13.0% compared to 11.4%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in health care and social assistance (16.2% compared to 15.0%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in education and training (9.4% compared to 8.3%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed people in Division 14 increased by 2,472 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the resident population between 2016 and 2021 in Division 14 were for those employed in:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+729 persons)
  • Construction (+336 persons)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+321 persons)
  • Education and Training (+308 persons)
