More Division 08 residents worked in health care and social assistance than any other industry in 2021.

This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Division 08 in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (3,061 people or 15.4%)
  • Retail Trade (2,149 people or 10.8%)
  • Construction (2,054 people or 10.4%)

In combination, these three industries employed 7,264 people in total or 36.6% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Gold Coast City employed 15.0% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 10.4% in Retail Trade; and 11.4% in Construction.

The major difference between the jobs held by the population of Division 08 and Gold Coast City was:

  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in construction (10.4% compared to 11.4%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed people in Division 08 increased by 1,560 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the resident population between 2016 and 2021 in Division 08 were for those employed in:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+754 persons)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+280 persons)
  • Education and Training (+225 persons)
  • Construction (+120 persons)
