More Division 05 residents worked in health care and social assistance than any other industry in 2021.

Division 05's industry statistics identify the industry sectors in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.

When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Division 05 in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (3,721 people or 15.6%)
  • Construction (3,167 people or 13.2%)
  • Retail Trade (2,566 people or 10.7%)

In combination, these three industries employed 9,454 people in total or 39.5% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Gold Coast City employed 15.0% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 11.4% in Construction; and 10.4% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Division 05 and Gold Coast City were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in construction (13.2% compared to 11.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in accommodation and food services (7.3% compared to 8.9%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in professional, scientific and technical services (5.4% compared to 6.6%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed people in Division 05 increased by 3,004 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the resident population between 2016 and 2021 in Division 05 were for those employed in:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+1,082 persons)
  • Construction (+519 persons)
  • Education and Training (+278 persons)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+167 persons)
