Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Rural East in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (821 people or 18.5%)
  • Construction (513 people or 11.6%)
  • Education and Training (471 people or 10.6%)

In combination, these three industries employed 1,805 people in total or 40.7% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, the City of Greater Bendigo employed 19.1% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 9.5% in Construction; and 8.7% in Education and Training.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Rural East and the City of Greater Bendigo were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in construction (11.6% compared to 9.5%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in education and training (10.6% compared to 8.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in manufacturing (5.8% compared to 8.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in accommodation and food services (5.0% compared to 6.8%)
