In Tasmania, 43.8% of males aged over 15 years had completed Year 12 schooling (or equivalent) as of 2021. This was less than Greater Adelaide.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the highest level of schooling attained by the male population in Tasmania in 2021 compared to Greater Adelaide shows that there was a higher proportion of males who had left school at an early level (Year 10 or less) and a lower proportion of males who completed Year 12 or equivalent.

Overall, 41.4% of the male population left school at Year 10 or below, and 43.8% went on to complete Year 12 or equivalent, compared with 22.8% and 56.0% respectively for Greater Adelaide.

The major differences between the level of schooling attained by the male population in Tasmania and Greater Adelaide were:

  • A larger percentage of males who completed year 10 or equivalent (29.5% compared to 13.6%)
  • A larger percentage of males who completed year 9 or equivalent (7.4% compared to 4.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of males who completed year 12 or equivalent (43.8% compared to 56.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of males who completed year 11 or equivalent (8.3% compared to 16.4%)

Emerging groups

The largest changes in the level of schooling attained by the male population in Tasmania, between 2016 and 2021 were:

  • Year 12 or equivalent (+24,768 males)
  • Year 10 or equivalent (+2,270 males)
  • Year 11 or equivalent (+1,467 males)
  • Year 8 or below (-1,368 males)
