Regional NT's school completion data is a useful indicator of socio-economic status. With other indicators, such as Proficiency in English, the data informs planners and decision-makers about people's ability to access services. Dominant groups
Analysis of the highest level of schooling attained by the male population in Regional NT in 2021 compared to Greater Brisbane shows that there was a higher proportion of males who had left school at an early level (Year 10 or less) and a lower proportion of males who completed Year 12 or equivalent.
Overall, 40.8% of the male population left school at Year 10 or below, and 33.7% went on to complete Year 12 or equivalent, compared with 26.6% and 60.6% respectively for Greater Brisbane.
The major differences between the level of schooling attained by the male population in Regional NT and Greater Brisbane were:
- A larger percentage of males who completed year 8 or below (8.8% compared to 3.3%)
- A larger percentage of males who completed year 11 or equivalent (12.4% compared to 7.1%)
- A larger percentage of males who completed year 9 or equivalent (8.6% compared to 4.4%)
- A smaller percentage of males who completed year 12 or equivalent (33.7% compared to 60.6%)
Emerging groups
The largest changes in the level of schooling attained by the male population in Regional NT, between 2016 and 2021 were:
- Year 12 or equivalent (+1,715 males)
- Year 10 or equivalent (+750 males)
- Year 8 or below (-609 males)
- Year 11 or equivalent (+428 males)
