Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Greater Perth in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (149,312 people or 14.1%)
  • Retail Trade (94,230 people or 8.9%)
  • Construction (93,927 people or 8.9%)

In combination, these three industries employed 337,469 people in total or 31.9% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Northern Territory employed 14.9% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 7.2% in Retail Trade; and 8.0% in Construction.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Greater Perth and Northern Territory were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in mining (6.6% compared to 2.4%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in manufacturing (5.3% compared to 2.2%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in professional, scientific and technical services (7.8% compared to 4.9%)
