Dominant groups

Analysis of the household/family types in Greater Brisbane in 2021 compared to Tasmania shows that there was a higher proportion of couple families with child(ren) as well as a similar proportion of one-parent families. Overall, 30.8% of total families were couple families with child(ren), and 11.4% were one-parent families, compared with 24.0% and 11.1% respectively for Tasmania.

There were a lower proportion of lone person households and a lower proportion of couples without children. Overall, the proportion of lone person households was 22.7% compared to 27.6% in Tasmania while the proportion of couples without children was 25.3% compared to 28.3% in Tasmania.

The number of households in Greater Brisbane increased by 187,623 between 2011 and 2021.
