Dominant groups

Analysis of the male five year age groups of Greater Darwin in 2021 compared to Victoria shows that there was a higher proportion of males in the younger age groups (under 15) and a lower proportion of males in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 19.5% of the male population was aged between 0 and 15, and 12.1% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 18.9% and 15.5% respectively for Victoria.

The major differences between the male age structure of Greater Darwin and Victoria were:

  • A larger percentage of males aged 30 to 34 (8.9% compared to 7.6%)
  • A larger percentage of males aged 25 to 29 (8.5% compared to 7.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of males aged 85 and over (0.5% compared to 1.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of males aged 80 to 84 (1.0% compared to 2.0%)
