Dominant groups

Analysis of the male five year age groups of Greater Brisbane in 2021 compared to Victoria shows that there was a higher proportion of males in the younger age groups (under 15) and a lower proportion of males in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 20.2% of the male population was aged between 0 and 15, and 13.8% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 18.9% and 15.5% respectively for Victoria.

The major differences between the male age structure of Greater Brisbane and Victoria were:

  • A larger percentage of males aged 10 to 14 (7.0% compared to 6.3%)
  • A larger percentage of males aged 15 to 19 (6.5% compared to 5.9%)

Emerging groups

From 1996 to 2021, Greater Brisbane's male population increased by 477,529 people (63.2%). This represents an average annual population change of 1.98% per year over the period.
