Five year age groups

In 2021, the largest age group in Regional TAS was 60 to 64 year olds. The group that changed the most since 1996 was 60 to 64 year olds, increasing by 5,566 people.

Dominant groups

Analysis of the male five year age groups of Regional TAS in 2021 compared to Victoria shows that there was a lower proportion of males in the younger age groups (under 15) and a higher proportion of males in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 17.3% of the male population was aged between 0 and 15, and 21.7% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 18.9% and 15.5% respectively for Victoria.

The major differences between the male age structure of Regional TAS and Victoria were:

  • A larger percentage of males aged 65 to 69 (6.8% compared to 4.7%)
  • A larger percentage of males aged 70 to 74 (6.1% compared to 4.1%)
  • A larger percentage of males aged 60 to 64 (7.3% compared to 5.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of males aged 35 to 39 (5.6% compared to 7.5%)

Emerging groups

From 1996 to 2021, Regional TAS's male population increased by 17,906 people (13.4%). This represents an average annual population change of 0.51% per year over the period.

The largest changes in male age structure in this area between 1996 and 2021 were in the age groups:

  • 60 to 64 (+5,566 males)
  • 70 to 74 (+5,210 males)
  • 65 to 69 (+5,174 males)
  • 55 to 59 (+4,120 males)
