Dominant groups
Analysis of the need for assistance of people in Australia compared to Regional Australia shows that there was a lower proportion of people who reported needing assistance with core activities.
Overall, 3.7% of the population reported needing assistance with core activities, compared with 6.5% for Regional Australia.
The major differences in the age groups reporting a need for assistance in Greater Darwin and Regional Australia were:
- A larger percentage of persons aged 85 and over (54.4% compared to 46.3%)
- A larger percentage of persons aged 80 to 84 (32.7% compared to 25.0%)
- A larger percentage of persons aged 75 to 79 (17.2% compared to 15.3%)
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 20 to 59 (1.8% compared to 3.4%)
Emerging groups
The major differences in the age groups reporting a need for assistance between 2006 and 2021 in Greater Darwin were in the age groups:
- 20 to 59 (+524 persons)
- 10 to 19 (+414 persons)
- 70 to 74 (+303 persons)
- 85 and over (+281 persons)
