Dominant groups
Analysis of the need for assistance of people in Australia compared to Regional Australia shows that there was a similar proportion of people who reported needing assistance with core activities.
Overall, 6.6% of the population reported needing assistance with core activities, compared with 6.5% for Regional Australia.
The major differences in the age groups reporting a need for assistance in Greater Adelaide and Regional Australia were:
- A larger percentage of persons aged 85 and over (51.7% compared to 46.3%)
- A larger percentage of persons aged 80 to 84 (27.6% compared to 25.0%)
- A larger percentage of persons aged 75 to 79 (16.3% compared to 15.3%)
Emerging groups
The major differences in the age groups reporting a need for assistance between 2006 and 2021 in Greater Adelaide were in the age groups:
- 85 and over (+7,153 persons)
- 20 to 59 (+6,335 persons)
- 10 to 19 (+4,846 persons)
- 70 to 74 (+3,570 persons)
