Dominant groups
Analysis of the language used at home by the population of Rural North East in 2021 compared to South Gippsland Shire shows that there was a smaller proportion of people who used English only, as well as a smaller proportion of those using a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).
Overall, 88.0% of the population used English only, and 3.0% used a non-English language, compared with 89.6% and 3.9% respectively for South Gippsland Shire.
The dominant language used at home, other than English, in Rural North East was German, with 0.5% of the population, or 16 people using this language at home.
There were no major differences between Rural North East and South Gippsland Shire in 2021.
