Dominant groups

Analysis of the female five year age groups of the City of Monash in 2021 compared to Greater Melbourne shows that there was a lower proportion of females in the younger age groups (under 15) and a higher proportion of females in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 14.9% of the female population was aged between 0 and 15, and 20.1% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 17.4% and 16.2% respectively for Greater Melbourne.

The major differences between the female age structure of the City of Monash and Greater Melbourne were:

  • A larger percentage of females aged 85 and over (3.9% compared to 2.5%)
  • A larger percentage of females aged 20 to 24 (7.8% compared to 6.4%)
