Name origin

Chadstone is named after Chadstone Road, which was thought to be named after the Chad stone church, north of Malvern Hills in England.

Settlement history

Development of the area dates primarily from the post-war years, including public housing construction in the 1950s in the Jordanville area. The population has increased since the mid 1990s, a result of new dwellings being added to the area.

Land use

Chadstone is an established residential area, with commercial areas along Warrigal Road.

Major features of the area include Waverley Basketball Centre, Oakleigh Public Golf Course, Jordanville Community Centre, Batesford Reserve, Jordan Reserve, GippsTAFE Energy Training Centre, Salesian College and one other school.
