Dominant groups
Analysis of the male five year age groups of Mulgrave in 2021 compared to Clayton shows that there was a higher proportion of males in the younger age groups (under 15) as well as a higher proportion of males in the older age groups (65+).
Overall, 18.6% of the male population was aged between 0 and 15, and 17.9% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 8.1% and 8.0% respectively for Clayton.
The major differences between the male age structure of Mulgrave and Clayton were:
- A larger percentage of males aged 10 to 14 (6.3% compared to 1.8%)
- A larger percentage of males aged 5 to 9 (6.8% compared to 2.5%)
- A smaller percentage of males aged 20 to 24 (6.3% compared to 22.6%)
- A smaller percentage of males aged 25 to 29 (7.7% compared to 22.5%)

From 2001 to 2021, Mulgrave's male population increased by 1,930 people (24.0%). This represents an average annual population change of 1.08% per year over the period.
The largest changes in male age structure in this area between 2001 and 2021 were in the age groups:
- 75 to 79 (+274 males)
- 80 to 84 (+222 males)
- 70 to 74 (+211 males)
- 35 to 39 (+200 males)
