Dominant groups

Analysis of the household/family types in the Gunnedah Shire in 2011 compared to Regional NSW shows that there was a higher proportion of couple families with child(ren) as well as a similar proportion of one-parent families. Overall, 27.6% of total families were couple families with child(ren), and 10.9% were one-parent families, compared with 26.7% and 11.3% respectively for Regional NSW.

There were a higher proportion of lone person households and a lower proportion of couples without children. Overall, the proportion of lone person households was 26.5% compared to 25.6% in Regional NSW while the proportion of couples without children was 26.1% compared to 27.7% in Regional NSW.

Emerging groups

The number of households in Gunnedah Shire increased by 242 between 2006 and 2011.
