Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Gunnedah Shire in 2011 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing (936 people or 18.0%)
  • Retail Trade (516 people or 9.9%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (482 people or 9.2%)

In combination, these three industries employed 1,934 people in total or 37.1% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Regional NSW employed 5.8% in Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing; 11.4% in Retail Trade; and 13.0% in Health Care and Social Assistance.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of the Gunnedah Shire and Regional NSW were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (18.0% compared to 5.8%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in mining (8.1% compared to 2.5%)
