Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Cumberland Council area in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (12,538 people or 14.6%)
  • Retail Trade (8,537 people or 9.9%)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (6,915 people or 8.0%)

In combination, these three industries employed 27,990 people in total or 32.5% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, the City of Sydney employed 9.4% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 7.0% in Retail Trade; and 18.9% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Cumberland Council area and the City of Sydney were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in health care and social assistance (14.6% compared to 9.4%)
