Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in North Sydney Council area in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (4,761 males or 23.7%)
  • Financial and Insurance Services (2,921 males or 14.6%)
  • Construction (1,371 males or 6.8%)

In combination, these three industries employed 9,053 males in total or 45.1% of the total employed male resident population.

In comparison, Western Sydney (LGA) employed 8.1% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services; 5.1% in Financial and Insurance Services; and 14.1% in Construction.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of North Sydney Council area and Western Sydney (LGA) were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed in professional, scientific and technical services (23.7% compared to 8.1%)
  • A larger percentage of males employed in financial and insurance services (14.6% compared to 5.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in construction (6.8% compared to 14.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in transport, postal and warehousing (3.0% compared to 9.7%)

The largest changes in the jobs held by the male resident population between 2016 and 2021 in North Sydney Council area were for those employed in:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+273 males)
  • Information Media and Telecommunications (-254 males)
  • Accommodation and Food Services (-151 males)
  • Construction (+142 males)
