Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in Western Sydney (LGA) in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Construction (81,900 males or 14.1%)
  • Transport, Postal and Warehousing (56,044 males or 9.7%)
  • Manufacturing (53,354 males or 9.2%)

In combination, these three industries employed 191,298 males in total or 33.0% of the total employed male resident population.

In comparison, Inner West Council area employed 8.9% in Construction; 4.5% in Transport, Postal and Warehousing; and 4.3% in Manufacturing.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of Western Sydney (LGA) and Inner West Council area were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed in transport, postal and warehousing (9.7% compared to 4.5%)
  • A larger percentage of males employed in construction (14.1% compared to 8.9%)
  • A larger percentage of males employed in manufacturing (9.2% compared to 4.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in professional, scientific and technical services (8.1% compared to 16.8%)

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+17,135 males)
