Dominant groups

Analysis of the need for assistance of people in the Western Sydney (LGA) compared to Western Sydney (LGA) shows that there was a lower proportion of people who reported needing assistance with core activities.

Overall, 4.1% of the population reported needing assistance with core activities, compared with 5.8% for Western Sydney (LGA).

The major differences in the age groups reporting a need for assistance in the Rest of Sydney and Western Sydney (LGA) were:

  • A smaller percentage of persons aged 80 to 84 (26.3% compared to 35.9%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons aged 75 to 79 (14.5% compared to 23.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons aged 70 to 74 (8.7% compared to 16.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons aged 85 and over (46.5% compared to 53.0%)

Emerging groups

The major differences in the age groups reporting a need for assistance between 2016 and 2021 in the Rest of Sydney were in the age groups:

  • 70 to 74 (+1,752 persons)
  • 80 to 84 (+1,548 persons)
  • 75 to 79 (+1,437 persons)
  • 10 to 19 (+1,220 persons)
